Agility is a dog sport performed all over the world by many different
owners with their dogs. Dogs do not have to be pure bred and the
owners can be any age. Different obstacles are set up on a course
and the handler has to guide their dogs over them using verbal commands and hand signals.
It takes a strong
partnership between dog and human to do a whole course. A lot of coordination between the two.
The dog has to be obedient and well trained and able
to listen to your instructions. You are a team. The better the dog is trained, the less running the handler has to do.
There are several different levels of
competition. There are minimum obstacle requirements for each course
but the course will be set up different at each trial. There are several different venues.
The most popular being AKC , NADAC,
CPE, USDAA. We compete
in each.
Dallas & Jeep train at Kilmoreen Canine Training Center
but we also have some obstacles at home. We plan on starting Agility competition in 2003.
All of the photos of Dallas were taken during competition by professional photographers. The photos
of Jeep were taken by myself during training sessions.
NOTE: July 2003. Dallas has already earned several agility titles this year in AKC and CPE. Jeep
had 2 qualifying CPE runs with 2nd places his first time out on July 4th.
